Sure, I'll be a rube and get these. I've been about as happy as I can be with the JVC HA-FDX1, so I might as well give these cans a whirl. Worst case they end up in the closet with all of the other crap cans I've bought. Plus, I'm a big sucker for the wood components in cans. That $100 in drop rewards points for buying them is fairly nice, bringing the cost to $399, which is pretty acceptable in my opinion.

FayneI'll be looking forward to your thoughts on them. I'm a sucker for wood headphones and I like the look of the JVCs, I just didn't want to drop the money on them right now.

postwarscarsThey're nice enough sounding cans, especially with instrumental music (classical and the likes). They're easily driven and a bit sensitive, so not suitable for tube amps that hum. I had pretty good luck with them on my APPJ PA1502A, RFTLYS EA1A, Musical Paradise MP-301mk3, FX Tube-P1, and Weiliang E200, but not so much with the Muzishare i3 and Muzishare X3T. Normally the i3 is my goto, but it just pushes way too much power so I only get like 5 degrees of range on the volume pot. The X3T has a bit of hum that is rather annoying on sensitive cans. They're absolutely not suitable for most OTL amps, but I expect they'll be rather fun on my Folkvangr when it arrives. All of the hybrid I tried them on had no problems. LittleDot1+, CTH, Loxjie P20, xDuoo TA-20 and xDuoo MT-604. Pretty much anything solid state like the 789, LCX, or Schiit Hel will work well on low or medium gain. Heck, they work just fine with a super cheapo balanced-only opamp based amplifier from Douk. They can also be driven from a phone or dap super easy. I'm not sure they're worth $499. I have many other headphones that are better bang for buck in the $499 price bracket. Outside of the wood in the build, they're extremely cheap feeling. Lots of plastic in places I'd rather have metal. I expect if they were a daily driver for me, they'd only last a few years before critical plastic breaks. They're mighty small if you have a big head, big ears, or gauge piercings. The ear pads need swapping and the cable is kinda crap. Luckily the cable is the same pin-out as Hifiman and Focal, so it isn't overly difficult to get a high quality replacement.

FayneJesus. I even read your review and STILL asked for feedback a fucking year later. Thanks for the run through though. My concern was always $499 being a reasonable price or not. I still find the headphones fascinating, but worrying about plastic failure on $500 headphones bothers me since I use closed cans at work daily.

postwarscarsYeah. I mean, I like them and don't regret buying them, but they absolutely don't feel like $499 cans. They sound about right for the price bracket, but that construction. Meh. Have you checked out the Fostex T60RP? Wood plus generally well liked planar magnetic drivers. Great sounding and pretty spiffy looking.

FayneYes! The T60RP are on my list of eventual purchases. I have a ton of things I need to spend money on currently so I'm holding off, but they are definitely going into the collection soon (provided the girlfriend doesn't have an aneurysm over me buying another set of headphones...).

postwarscarsThey're pretty worth it. I've had mine since 2018 and they're still doing well. Swapped the pads out with Dekoni Fenestrated and had a custom Hart HC-2 balanced cable made. They're fairly thirsty cans, not unlike all of the other Fostex T-RP series. My only, and I do mean only complaint is that they make noises when moved. This Youtube link shows this off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-zmNnCMkUY

FayneI get the impression you and I have similar tastes in audio (though your experience is vastly superior to mine), so I will take that as a solid endorsement! And noise when they move is not a huge deal to me, my K702 65ths are creaky as hell. I'll take that over, say, when my ATH-A900s started literally shocking me/sparking through the right side driver...
