Here's what's confusing to me... Kailh has had BOX tooling for years that is direction-agnostic (can mount GMK caps in either direction without interference), and yet only the circular-shrouded switches (all silent save for the Cream) get it anywhere outside of Korea. If Archon still owns exclusivity to that "Art" housing, why not just use the round stems and make these switches compatible with a lot more builds?
The square stems have been inherently flawed from the start, being very prone to warpage - presumably when cooling. Almost every box stem - including those pictured above - has some amount of visible twist or tilt; assuming the Kailh logo is at the bottom, the right-side wall always sits a little lower than the left. It's also true that these stems can still damage keycaps, if not as severely as early models - using the round stems would at least avoid that perception.
I'd LOVE a set of Box Whites I could trust not to damage my caps - using the old square stems makes these seem like unlikely candidates.
Looks like they increased the bump strength for the Brown, perhaps using the leaf from the silent version - that's pretty cool. The 5 pins are also cool, and the visual distinction from previous iterations is also appreciated. Obv. I haven't tried them yet, but so far these seem to me a step in the right direction, just maybe not far enough to make them desirable for me.

Has anyone actually had a switch fail from regular old age?

MkjenisI have a keyboard with Alps SKCM black switches that I have been using at work since 2003, and it is still working perfectly.
