I've always wondered something about these (I own a pair already)... back when the product stack contained the YU2, YU3, YUMI, and YU5, the pricing was as I just listed, in increasing order. From this I inferred that the YU5 were Kanto's "best" offering in terms of sound quality, but is this true? I've never been able to find enough reviews to figure out what people think, and there was always the YUMI just sitting there, odd one out, making me question everything...

I think they're just different market niches rather than better or worse. The YUMI has a lower power class A/B amp. The YU5 has more watts but a class D amp. So theoretically the YUMI's should sound a little better but the YU5's should be louder. I own the YU5's and my father has the YUMI's but I've never done a side by side comparison. I love my YU5's but I use them out in my workshop and garage where the acoustics are horrible and I'm running power tools, so volume was more important to me than ultimate fidelity. If I were buying speakers for my living room, it would by the YUMI's.
