So the only digital inputs are the 2 optical inputs? the USB port is output only? why have a built in DAC and no option for USB input?

Magellan@Magellan There's two optical inputs, one 3.5mm, one set of RCA and Bluetooth 4.0. You would be very hard pressed to find a set of speakers with a better input selection.

Magellanthe USB port is just for charging mobile devices, if it were a DAC it would be a USB type B port (a speaker or DAC is a peripheral device not a host)

jmauroAgreed, there is a great input selection, but seems like an oversight to not have USB input... I think it's safe to say USB is the more common digital output and find it unlikely the majority of users will have 2 devices with optical outputs to take advantage of... My computer does not have optical output so they are useless to me as desktop monitors without using a standalone DAC in addition, which defeats the purpose of buying a powered speaker with a built in DAC... Maybe the next version will smarten up and replace one of those optical inputs with a USB

Magellanyou make it sound like there's a DAC in there but kanto just chose not to use it. these speakers are not advertised as having a built-in DAC. having more than one device with optical outputs isnt even that outlandish- a game console and a DVR for example. tons of people have that setup. the YU2 is a purpose built desktop speaker and it has a built in DAC, maybe that would suit you better....
