Figured I'd weigh in here. In a lot of cases, shipping costs are a necessary evil especially when fulfilling orders to multiple locations throughout the US and Canada. As a Canadian vendor, I can definitely tell you that Canadian shipping rates are far worse than US rates. This isn't just due to the crappy exchange rates either - it's just the nature of the beast. In my experience, shipping costs will vary from company to company based on their negotiated rates, method of shipment and how it is fulfilled. Some companies will be able to ship to customers directly (cheapest of all methods), while others may need to use fulfillment and/or distribution centers (higher cost). Point of origin also makes a difference. Massdrop works with many different vendors from multiple regions. It's a bit of a balancing act to make products available to multiple locations with the same discounted price points. It's one of the reasons why we currently limit our product sales to US and Canada. Selling products to the European market would be awesome for us and our customers, but I don't think our customers would like a $150 shipping bill (can't blame them).
All this being said, and IMHO, most vendors will try to eat as much of the additional costs for fulfillment as possible and offer up the best overall deal to the customer. However, you should expect to see shipping cost variances on the drops since Massdrop works with vendors who have multiple fulfillment methods and restrictions.
Hope this helps,
Josh
