"Note: This drop is available in Gloss Black only and limited to members in the United States."
But why? Leaving the Canadians out of the drop? Would have gladly supported a Canadian company. Guess I should throw my money at Audioengine or JBL instead?
Because they're made by a Canadian company?
Trying to make sense out of that statement. Canadians don't get the deal because the company is from Canada? Yep...makes no obvious sense.
I hear you. Wonder if Kanto made that part of the arrangement with Massdrop? But still doesn't make any sense. Kanto could have shipped Canadian orders directly from Vancouver eliminating Duty and extra shipping costs.
The YU5's are on sale right now at Best Buy for $339 with free shipping so considering the exchange rate, it's a better deal here at home. Oh and $339 at NCIX also.
Actually...I just checked online. They currently have them available on sale at various Canadian retailers (shop.ca, best buy and ncix) for $340 Canadian (the massdrop price is in USD right?) So it's WAY cheaper to buy them north of the border.
We're on the same wavelength CyberStreak.
But the Yuri is a good deal at $169 with $10 shipping if they get the numbers for the lowest drop.
Also, the YU5's come in White, Black, Yellow and Matte Grey at Best Buy. So ya, this is not the place to buy these here.
Yeah. Now I'm looking at the Yumi's. This search, never seems to end. Was all set to spend on the JBL LSR305's but the convenience of the Kanto speakers are hard to ignore.
Well I can't fault you there if you're going for the new Yumi's with Bluetooth. They may be lower powered than the YU5 but they use a class A/B amp instead of a Class D amp. All the same inputs/outputs as the YU5 and likely a cleaner sound thanks to that amp. Priced roughly the same as the JBL's and they don't have any of the connections the Kanto's have. Yes JBL does have some nice trim levels for HF and LF but no Sub out and both speakers need power. And it's always nice to support a Canadian company.
My apologies @CyberSteak! Shipping to Canada is now activated.
Yeah. The convenience of all those connections AND bluetooth is key. I'm not too concerned with the JBL's each needing their own power supply. I end up with more wires, but if something goes wrong with one of the JBL's, I can replace just one. If something goes wrong with one of the Kantos, I'd suspect I'd have to buy a whole new set.
Getting the JBL's in white is going to require me to order them from the states though and have them shipped to International Falls MN for pick up (2.5 hour drive from here) as the white inexcusably isn't available in Canada. The Kantos are readily available in white (both gloss and flat...decisions decisions) and every other color. Staples has the Yumi's for $420 (matte grey for $350!!!) free shipping to my door, no hassle.
I do like the look of the matte greys. Thanks for that tip!
It's you're lucky day then. The matte grey Kanto sub is available from shop.ca for $240!
they are 340CAD at ncix right now, which is about 260USD. I ordered the YU2 from there a few weeks ago. Quick delivery, and in Canada.
