Hey everyone,
The concept for this was driven by the question, “what’s in your current EDC rotation?” - variations of this question drive much of the discussions on our site and across social media. For many of our members, the core items - keys, wallet, phone - but beyond this, enthusiasts in the communities we serve tend to have multiples of other items like knives, pens, and watches.
You might just be starting a collection and looking for room to grow, or you might have dozens of knives and just use this to display what’s in your current rotation - either way, we designed this box around the idea that yeah lot of people like the idea of carrying a different knife every day of the week, whether you’re into #terzuolatuesday #wharncliffewednesday #FerrumFriday or whatever else.
I started working on this awhile back, after looking at my own storage “solution” for knives and other EDC items at home, and realizing. I checked around to see what else was available - I found some knife storage, and some dump trays for EDC stuff, but it seemed like nobody had really come up with an elegant solution that really tailored to knife collectors.
I thought about it for awhile, talked to some knife designers, and posted in our Talk area to see if other people had the same issue or other solutions. (https://www.massdrop.com/talk/3254/what-do-you-do-for-edc-and-knife-storage-display)
Members posted some great photos of all kinds of solutions, from tool chests to plastic bins and even some custom-made solutions - but again, I didn’t really see anything that was purpose-built to display knives and hold other items as well. So, I set about making something that I thought our members would enjoy based on this idea
From there, I enlisted the help of our in-house engineer, John Yu, who saw there was unused space below the knife tray and came up with the idea for hidden storage underneath, and did a lot of work in CAD making sure that our manufacturer understood this...because, let’s face it, not everyone “gets it” when you try to explain you need an elegant solution for people who own so many knives they need a special box to keep their favorite ones handy.
This was particularly fun for me to work on because it’s the first product that I’ve really designed from scratch, and also because it was built specifically to serve the Massdrop community. Thanks for checking it out, hope you like it!
* The drop will begin at 6:00am PT on Wednesday, April 25th.
* The price will be $119.99 (shipped to US addresses).
* This drop is limited to 1500 units
* The AAA flashlight will only be included on this first pre-production drop.
JonasHeineman1. Is it possible to show a video walkthrough of the case?
2. Is it correct to say that in order to use the USB cable passthrough to charge the phone, you have to place the phone horizontally slanted in the slot showing the Apple watch? Could you please include a picture demonstrating this?
FeebleOldMan1. We've been pushing to have more video production and also video hosting on the site, but they are still in the works. It is possible that I can ask our team to post something on IG and link to it here, I will ask and update here if it is.
2. Yes, that's correct. Most regular phones (up to 2.4" wide) will lay flat, an iPhone 6+ in an Otterbox leans nicely against the knife shelf at a 45* angle. You can see here it's got plenty of room to slide forward in that opening.
JonasHeinemanWould it be possible to make one for those who conceal carry handguns? Nobody makes one decently and would love to be able to purchase one!
SaixFoIt's unlikely that we'll make a dedicated box for handguns, but that application is good to keep in mind for the matching drawer to fit underneath that we hope to make available if this continues to sell well in the coming months.
JonasHeineman+1 for a drawer for concealed carriers.

JonasHeinemanHey, couple of questions:
" * The AAA flashlight will only be included on this first pre-production drop. "
Which one is that? Link? Also:
"only be included on this first pre-production drop. "
What does that mean? I joined this drop: is this 1500 drop the pre-production drop? Does it mean I will get one?
Thanks!
To answer your question, yes, you will get one of the flashlights if you are joining this drop, the boxes haven’t been produced yet. After the drop ends then they will go into production and be here around September. Your box and the free AAA aluminum flashlight. here is the link to that

tfmiller33Thanks! Wasn't sure about it. The flashlight is a bonus, but I didn't really notice until after I joined anyway :-)
Earlier(same thread), Jonas was talking about laying out your knives by weekday: like “#terzuolatuesdays, #wharncliffewednesdays, #ferrumfridays”. I was being cheeky with Machete Mondays...though knowing it couldn’t store a machete... Sorry I came off as obtuse; I’m usually hilarious. :)

AxeguyNo it was me, LOL. Misread: I thought it was Jonas typing that... Senior moment I guess ;-)
JonasHeinemanI gave this idea more thought and I really like the idea of a drawer for a handgun. I don’t use a safe and I keep it nearby the bed but In time I will be building some sweet mid century nightstands with a great place for a Valet like this with probable room for a drawer to hold something up to the modest size of a handgun. It certainly isn’t a prerequisite but I’d love to see that additional storage. Lordy I think I need to get this...hmmm who needs to pay there power bill? Lol
JonasHeinemanGreat looking box but for future models it would be great if the knife shelves were bigger. I would buy one but most of the knives are own are longer folded than these shelves are. these cant even fit a benchmade 940 completely
SonGokuThey sent emails earlier the week saying it hit the production stage and is on schedule to ship to buyers on original date, August 31st. They’ll update when they get them to the MD warehouse.
JonasHeinemanHello,
i intially was part of the drop but for some reason I had a payment error and they canceled my order for 2 of these. I am reaching out to see if there is anyway I can still get one?
pkease let me know and I’d be happy to pay you directly if needed.
thanks.
