Hmm, I would be really mad if they upgrade this to glass top in the next iteration instead, of acrylic since I joined the drop now...

Highly unlikely - the chance of breakage during shipment, or while all your things are inside, is too high. Using acrylic was not primarily a cost-driven decision; we thought mostly about how it would hold up during transport and use over time.

JonasHeinemanI have multiple watch cases (plural) with glass covers, the size of this box and none of them ever broke during shipping or usage. So I find that argument invalid...
[EDIT] Also: regarding the argument "use over time" ; the likely hood/probability of scratching glass is infinite smaller than acrylic. Sorry, just a fact. Also: when placed in sunlight (UV) the acrylic will loose it's structural strength over time (become brittle) and might discolor ass well..
But again: I joined this drop in lieu of any good alternatives. So we will see...

I agree with most of your post regarding the glass... however I was actually worried about my cat jumping onto the glass top if this were to be sitting on my desk. The acrylic probably wouldn't survive that either but also probably wouldn't cause my cat to bleed out. :)

techmattrMy cats like to lay on top of my boxes: even when open. No regard for my stuff whatsoever. Nothing ever happened. But then again: no idea if your cat is obese or humongous (Maine Coon)...

techmattrOne of my cats (our big alpha male) jumped onto our glass stereo/TV stand and completely shattered it! I’m talking about half-inch thick tempered glass. He just wandered away as we stared, jaws agape. I may have to have a reinforced concrete ‘EDC Bunker’...
