Kaweco AL Sport Explorer Fountain Pen

Available in the US exclusively through Massdrop, the Kaweco AL Sport Explorer can otherwise only be found in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. It’s an olive green version of the most popular model from a brand long synonymous with classic, high-quality fountain pens. The Kaweco AL Sport has the compact charm of others in the Sport Series, with a polished aluminum body that adds unmistakable character and satisfying weight. 

The AL Sport closely follows the 1935 octagonal design that inspired Kaweco’s slogan—”small in the pocket, great in the hand”—while improving upon its plastic predecessor’s nib, feed, swap-ability, and overall feel. Tactile types will appreciate the silky finish and pleasant grip, rounded out with an aluminum barrel, an aluminum screw-on cap bearing the Kaweco logo on the finial, and a stainless steel nib. The pen is conveniently pocket-sized at 4.1 inches capped and extends to a comfortable 5.3 inches posted. It’s compatible with international short cartridges, as well as the special Kaweco Sport squeeze converter. A pocket clip can add character to the Sport’s sleek profile, but note that it may cause scratches over time.
