It also costs $1600 vs $87 for this pen for the far more useable stainless steel version.

Spokes30LOL didn’t realize the price was that high. I guess I won’t be trading mine in. but that shiny silver is very attractive

Spokes30I don't think it's stainless, it's just normal carbon steel. That's why them say it has a raw finish and will patina - aka rust a bit.

dgaddisThese pens are stainless steel and will darken over time which is called patina. They will patina faster because they have a very nice stonewash type of finish that does not show scratches. Rust is not patina and is orange and has to do with iron content. I have no idea what type of stainless steel they used in the fabrication thus I do not know how long they will not show rust in a pool of water. Kaweco would have served their marketing better if they would write "stainless steel" on them instead of just "steel" but maybe they do not think in English we distinguish between the two. In the folding knife world saying just steel also means stainless steel so maybe they do not think they need to write all of that on the limited space of the pen. As a longtime user of these pens and an engineer I am certain they are machined from solid stainless steel and will not rust with normal use but they will patina which is rather nice.

Spokes30Interesting. I assumed it wasn't stainless since it doesn't say 'stainless' anywhere in the description besides stating that the nib is stainless. But if it develops a patina it must not be a "true" stainless (like a 304L or 316L), it must be some stain-resistant alloy similar to what's used in some knives. D2 is a good example, it doesn't rust exactly but it does patina. Can you post a pic of one of yours showing the patina?

Spokes30LOL You really do baffle me so..... "Stainless does not patina, I have no idea why people are talking about this." -Spokes 30 "These pens are stainless steel and will darken over time which is called patina." - Spokes30 "...but they will patina which is rather nice." - Spokes30 And once again, throwing around your credentials as an engineer....you'd think you should know that both rust and patina are forms of oxidization. And that even "Stainless" can, sometimes quite easily, get active (red/orange) surface rust. "In the folding knife world saying just steel also means stainless steel" I mean, seriously, where do you come up with this stuff?? 🤣🤣🤣 If I see just "steel" stamped on a blade, I'm making no assumptions about it being stainless. The only assumption I'm making is that I definitely should not buy that knife. I hope everyone enjoys the pens, but this just made me scratch my head in wonder, so much so that I just had to post a "wtf?" reply 🤯
