Built by hand in Southern California and based on the well-regarded Darling circuit, the ampsandsound Kenzie headphone amp is as pleasant to listen to as it is beautiful to look at. The custom-wound ultra-high-quality output transformers deliver an extended frequency range, while the 1626 single-ended tubes bring layers of texture and soundstage depth. A robust World War II-era tube once used as a transmitter tube in radar installations, the 1626 offers a transparent, natural sound with just the right amount of warmth and sweetness.
Versatile Functionality
Solidly built inside and out, the Kenzie features a retro-inspired wood finish to match its vintage tubes. Two separate headphone outputs cater to high and low impedances (300-plus ohms and 32 to 300 ohms, respectively), and allow the amp to drive a wide range of headphones—the Sennheiser HD800, the Audeze LCD-2.2F, the Grado Labs SR60, you name it. A pair of unbalanced RCA inputs connect to your DAC, CD player, or music source of choice, while the ALPS pot offers a silky-smooth volume adjustment.
