dealaholicI used to be just as skeptical about tanto blades. Couldn't imagine how the could be useful for EDC.
Then on a whim I purchased that Emerson Kershaw knife that dropped her a whole back. Got both the clip point and the tanto. Surprisingly, I find myself using the tanto almost exclusively out of the two knives.
I find the fine, pointy tip it be more precise for entering the flap of an envelope, or cutting the tape line of a sealed box. I also find the long flat edge is great at stripping insulation off of wire, and breaking down cardboard, etc. So I wouldn't write off the tanto blade without trying it first.
One area where a clipped or drop point might be better is for food prep or cutting rope, where you have to slice along a good part of the edge.
Still, I find the tanto point to be different, but just as legit, for EDC tasks.
K.T.Nyou're speaking of the CQC7 w/tanto vs CQC6 w/ drop point? I have both and I do totally agree with you in that instance.
However, I think a wharncliffe is really good for daily tasks better than both of the other blade profiles. The tip is more fragile but great at slicing.
dealaholicWell, a drop for a blur with a standard blade just ended a couple days ago, so I don't see why putting up a different variant is a big deal.
Furthermore, I really don't understand the hate for tanto blades in knife communities, they're awesome. I've got a Cryo with a tanto blade as well as one with a standard blade, and I use the tanto far more often for everyday tasks. It's much better at opening boxes and such. Definitely not just for stabbing.
