JerrikkoI'd be really interested in a drop for an improved Leek. Just got one of the D2 composite models from Amazon (paid $55... they're $67 now, two weeks later.), and I'm really loving it. The 14C28N models take a nice edge, but they just don't stay sharp for long enough.

JerrikkoI love 14C. Takes a wicked edge and holds it well as long as you strop after using. Some of those super hard steels are just super hard to get sharp. Yes, S30v holds a kind of sharp edge for a longer time. But getting it razor sharp is next to impossible. I have one of their Sandvik composite Leeks with a high carbon core. That thing is sharper than snot but it is too brittle. I live in fear of snapping off the tip. 14C is nearly the perfect knife steel for the way I use my knives.
For me, S30c is a lateral move with better durability of the almost-sharp edge cursed by its inability to take or hold a truly sharp edge. My survival knife is S30c. My EDC is Sandvik 14C.
