For sharpening though it just depends on how often you use it. Unless you're really active with it and you're using it for things like meat prep or carving some wood you won't need to worry about sharpening it. That said, you can always get a whetstone or 2 (Low grit stones are for getting the profile of the knife, high grit stones are for polishing the edge) and they'll last you ages and you can sharpen everything.
