While well made and nicely machined, it is clunkier than I expected. A bit fatter than I thought it would be Solid, and should last a long time, but the proportions are not elegant.
Welp, it's pretty much exactly as I expected and works really well. I'll probably add a piece of cork to the bottom of it, and wish the logo was either smaller or nonexistent, but can't really knock it for either of those things since the pictures were completely representative of the product.
Other Thoughts:
If you ever make one out of solid stainless steel I'll be first in line to order one or two - especially if the logo is moved to the rim of the base or removed entirely!
tl;dr: flashy and classy desk accessory, needs to be lubed.
This is well machined and well made desk accessory which, when lubed properly spins very well. The first couple times I tried, I cleaned with alcohol and used lube that was too light and the bearings ended up galling and stiffening up. I switched to a slightly heavier oil lube and it's worked out very well. Very stable and spins well. The holes are machined with bevels and all sharp edges have nice radii on them. A bit pricey but will last through a lifetime of use. The holes are unlined raw aluminum so if you're totally obsessed, you may want to line with paper to prevent any scratching. If they ever make a Ti version for a reasonable price, say, +60% or so, I'd be up for that also.
Love this pen holder. It's not only unique on the desk, but functional as well. My only (very minor) gripe is that the bore holes for the pens are not lined with any kind of material that would prevent the metal from scratching some of my nicer pens. I ended up rolling paper into tubes and inserting them into the holds as a buffer between the metal and the pen.
