After a lot of requests at QuiltCon this year we decided to work with some of our friends in the keyboard community to make something a little special. Enter the Keycool 87 with Rainbow Keycaps and white LED backlighting. A mechanical keyboard that comes preinstalled with a full set of beautiful rainbow keycaps to make sitting down at the computer just that much more enjoyable.
Note: This drop is limited to 150 units. In this drop you can choose between White and Champagne case color. You may also choose between Kailh Blue or Brown switches and Cherry MX Blue(+$15), Green(+$20), Brown(+$15), Red(+$10) or Black(+$5) switches.
Keys
These keys are made from PBT plastic which is a thick, sturdy type of plastic so they won't wear down any time soon and the colors will remain vibrant for years. If you're upgrading from the standard keyboard that comes with your computer you'll also immediately notice the quality feel that these keys give. They provide a much less "plasticy" sound as well as providing a much more substantial typing experience.
Switches
As you begin to type you might be aware of the distinct sound produced by the keyboard. Compared to the mushy rubber domes used in most keyboards, you'll be getting a completely mechanical switch under each key. Not only do these switches feel more responsive and satisfying, but they are also rated for a lifetime of over 50 million clicks so you can clack away to your hearts delight.
Typing Feel
For this keyboard you can choose between Blue, Green, Red, Black and Brown switches. If you're looking for a familiar experience with an upgraded feel then the Browns are the way to go. With Browns you'll get quieter typing with a slight tactile bump. If you remember typing on old Dell keyboards from the early 90's and want to relive your clackity days, then give the lightweight Blues or heavier Greens a shot. The distinct click might get you frowns in the library, but it'll definitely get a conversation going in the office or at home. Those of you who like a super smooth typing feeling will prefer the lightweight Red or heavier Black as it provides a nontactile and silent type sound.
