Is this a vendor that Massdrop has done business with before? I understand that if the vendor is shipping things directly, that Massdrop has far fewer options (and much less influence), but if this is the first time Massdrop has used this vendor... I'd definitely think twice before using them again.
evil_andyWe definitely evaluate our vendors from drop to drop and make sure that they are still valuable for the community before considering working with them again. This drop is being run with a newer vendor that is still learning the procedures that we use to make sure that there aren't delays on shipment.
You are right that we have less control over the fulfillment process when we aren't handling it directly. In fact, with sealed MtG products, our vendors are not allowed to let us handle fulfillment according to their agreements with Wizards of the Coast. However, we still have ways of helping our vendors with logistical problems that they face. Often, we will jump in and help them solve these problems as they come up during the fulfillment of the drop but at the least we make sure that we work closely to solve any systematic problems before doing any future drops with them.
From a community perspective, we like the fact that we get to work with local game stores on Magic the Gathering drops. It rewards the places that we all love to visit to play Magic and builds the community as a whole. This comes with the drawback that often these businesses have to learn how to facilitate shipping out high-volume orders.
To be specific to this drop, we will definitely be working with them to identify the issues and determine whether they can be addressed to meet the community's high standards for drops in the future.

cameronbachmanI hadn't thought that you aren't even allowed to handle the sealed product (though it makes sense with WoTC). I also like that you are supporting smaller stores since that often is what helps the community grow.
I look forward to the seeing how this drop plays out and it definitely sounds like you guys are on top of things, even if it hasn't been the smoothest sailing so far. I *really* appreciate the informative reply!
