I have one of these which I purchased from a (the?) major online retailer back around Christmas.
I bought a 128 GB SD card for it which I ripped a bunch of our kid DVDs to so they could watch them on their Kindles. It works fairly well for this purpose, but there is no web-based player, you have to install Kingston's rather clunky app (iOS and Android), and in their navigation app there are no thumbnails for the movies. That makes it rather difficult for our four year old who can't read yet to figure out which movie she wants.
As an Ethernet bridge, or WiFi access point this thing is pretty awesome though. We recently went on vacation, and I just paired all our devices with this and as we went from hotel to hotel all I had to do was update the device's connection to hotel ethernet or WiFi and all the other paired devices would just work.
It will also accept some kind of 3G dongle, but I have never tried that.
You are supposed to be able to hook up USB storage devices for more space too, but I have only used the USB for device charging. It was again useful for this purpose on our vacation because the power went out due to a storm. One of my kid's Kindles was almost dead, so it was handy to hook this up and extend the life up through bedtime (a couple of hours) :)
I'm pretty happy with this thing, but I don't use it as much as I thought I would, mostly due to the software UI that's too complicated for my kids to watch their movies in the car on road trips.
I'd give it a 3 out of 5.

StilgarDoes this provide any kind of file share for the attached storage? Like SMB (windows file share), FTP, NFS or something. So that way you could get at the files from a computer or more importantly use Kodi (www.kodi.tv) as a media player on android / kindle devices. That would allow you to have a better UI with thumbnails and what not.

nobledNot that I'm aware of, but it would be handy if it did. It's possible that their app is just a layer on top of a more common protocol.
