The KitchenGrips chef’s mitt does just what it sounds like it would: gives you a better grip in the kitchen. That could be when you’re pulling something out of the oven, moving a pot off a hot stove, or handling a microwaved ramekin Read More
Recently had occasion to try a pair of these on at my local Sur La Table. I should note, they are sold individually, not actually in pairs, so there is no "right and left." My impression was that they would do the job. They are fairly thick but not especially flexible--both of those are the reasons they probably work as intended. Yes, they're flexible enough to grab a Dutch Oven handle or grip and oven rack, but no, you won't be picking up change or doing your cookbook signings in them. I also noticed that one or two pairs in the store were actually torn (from abuse, I assume) but that lead me to believe they aren't as tough as they look. I'm sure with reasonable care, they would last a reasonable amount of time. I was able to extend the cuff (unfold it) and that would definitely be a plus--it's my forearm that I normally end up burning if I'm not careful when removing a heavy pot from the oven. Ultimately, I was hesitant and decided to think about. I'll give them a second look on my next visit...
Cooktop$14 ($0.99 cheaper) on Amazon if you want the black body with red cuff. They only have 3 other colors, all of which are more expensive. (Black, $19.95; Blueberry, $15.42; Lime, $19.55)
[EDIT] I stand corrected, just found the red body/black cuff (which is the one I want) for $9.95. Thanks Cooktop!
