Product Description
The Kizer Rattler is so named due to its textured titanium handle. The scales are milled with a snakeskin texture, just like the venomous snake that lends the knife its moniker Read More

good grip
This knife feels good in the hand, the slight roundness gives it a good feel in hand as well as the dimpling. The recurve of the blade may be a bit difficult to sharpen but can be done. It kind of reminds me of a very loosely designed Grimsmo Norsemen.

Not perfect but still a great knife!
I love this Kizer. Its smooth has a great blade shape. I went ahead and anodized mine green and bronze. The opening and closing action are typical Kizer great. The ergonomics are also surprisingly great in my medium sized hands. I only knock down a star bc the pocket clip came a bit loose. There is an ever so slight clicking noise when holding or flipping the knife and it took me quite a while to figure out which screw was a bit loose. While I believe this is a 5 star knife I was a bit surprised to see a small problem with QC and the clip. Typically Kizers come almost perfect with very little disparity. The fact that this one had a minor flaw has to be noted. The price was great at $100 but whether or not this is a "second" is still up in the air. Regardless I absolutely love carrying this thing. Attached picture for a size comparison with other Drops I've joined.

This knife is the second one I've gotten from Massdrop/Drop, and the first I've picked up from Kizer; it's also the second knife I've gotten thru this place that most reputable knifemakers would sell as a factory second due to warped grinding on one side. Both are S35VN which are supposed to be relatively easy to work with for super steels but still prove challenging to people who are used to softer steels. The warping would be lot easier to see via video but as I can't directly upload video to the review, I've included pictures of both sides of the blade. You can see a single reflection of my desk lamp on one side of the knife; on the off side, from the same angle, you can see two, because the person who ground the edge pressed too hard and distorted the hollow grind. S35VN like most steel does have a little elasticity to it and a hasty grind can pull short sections of the surface of the blade into the grinder a little harder relative to the steel on the interior of it, which then snaps back as sort of a scalloped edge that gives a funhouse mirror quality to the light it reflects. Just like this. The knife is properly light for a titanium frame folder. It has a nice bluish clip on it that's got a bit of an odd bend to it. The texture of the handle is less rattler scale and more clustered bubbles. The flick is ok, it doesn't take much wrist out of the box, but it's a bit bumpier than it should be, which may wear in, or may not. It does lock up nicely. The grip is fairly ergonomic. The blade, and the flipper, and even the grooves in the frame, are almost devoid of design feature, and probably could have used some jimping and radiusing, especially with the handle being as rounded as it is. Now, I'm not philosophically opposed to the concept of owning a factory second or a blade with a known cosmetic defect like this. I expect plenty of people are the same there, cosmetic things matter less to me than utility, but that doesn't mean I'm fine being sold seconds without getting a heads up first, and Mass/drop is two for two in sending me knives that are either seconds or should have been. It's a wee bit troublesome of a trend to notice. It's the first Kizer knife I've bought and for all i know they're all like that, but if the reason for the discount and the fact that there were only like 40 of them ends up being that these were factory seconds, or ghost shift knives with no QC, that's way shady. Four stars is fair. It's not a terrible knife by any stretch. (Those of you who were miffed to miss out on the drop because it ended so quickly? I'll sell you mine, if you like.) To put my view in perspective, this was one of three knives that arrived today. I also got two other knives from makers I haven't tried before; a Tuyaknife Bruiser and a Civivi Naja. Each of them were less than half the price of the Kizer Rattler, and out of the three, the only categories the Kizer wins on are material strength, resale value and the fact that it's the only one with a reversible clip -- albeit not a deep pocket carry clip, which the other two sport. Neither of them have warping from the grind, which is something I associate a little more with bargain bin brands, and a little less with knives costing a benjamin, 'deal' or no. I'm rather happier with both of them and I keep picking them back up; they don't trounce the Rattler by any stretch but I think both of them are better knives all around. I'd rather have either. Your mileage could well vary. :)

reswrightok thanks i just got my rattler to day from blade hq and it seem to have the same problem as yours. even the edge has a really rough edge to it. it is not very well sharpened like my kizer sovereign which cost half the money and blade is twice as sharp and nice as my rattler. thinking of sending it back but may just sharpen it myself to a razor.
