Ever since he saw the movie First Blood when he was just a kid, Ray Laconico knew what he wanted to do with his career: to become a knifemaker. Since officially taking up the trade in the 1990s, Laconico has developed a simple, clean, and functional style that shows through in each of his designs Read More
Mine arrived today and it's quite nice. The G10 feels better than expected and the blade is very center. My only issue is that it's as dull as my ten+ year old steak knives that have never been sharpened. I'm probably the only one.
Got mine last night. It's quite nice. I disassembled it immediately and I have to say, Kizer does a rather good job of sending clean knives from the factory. I would have liked to see some kind of lubricant for the bearing track. It could definitely use a detent ramp.
The bearings definitely help with such a light blade with thing blade-stock. Would have liked to see metal bearing cages rather than plastic but it makes little material difference.
Finally received my knife. I'm one of the seemingly lucky people since the detent on this one is just fine with smooth action. Blade is also perfectly center. Really happy with it.
I am not at all happy with mine. The detent was ridiculously soft. Tried to bend the lockbar, and my first attempt didn't produce a meaningful result, because I was too cautious. Did it again, and this time I went overboard, and now the knife is useless. Should have passed on this one.
JSG1I managed to fully disassemble the knife and realize that I hadn't ruined it, after all. Since I had overbent the lock bar, now I bent it in the opposite direction, and the knife works better than when it was new. Still, I'd have preferred not having to fix the detent.
Just received mine, great action. One major problem, the belly of the blade was completely dull. When I say dull I mean it would not cut paper... I set up the Sharpmaker and 30 min later it was still mostly dull. I need to completely reprofile the blade. I know I can sharpen it up but this is unacceptable. I like the blade shape, weight, and action but buyer beware.
Just received mine. In person, the blade doesn't look as polished or refined as the photos show, but its still decent quality for the price. Arrived sharp and the action was smooth. Got even more smooth after a little break in period. Can't beat the value here. This knife holds its own against a SOG of similar dimensions and matetials (VG-10, g10, etc). this will probably end up as a starter knife for my cub scout.
Vanguard17Unless your kid has maybe hands, they likely wouldn't be able to carry it in scouting functions. Last I knew, the rule was the blade can't be longer than the width of the palm.
The Kizer Vanguard Gemini had been on my short list for a while. I like the clean look, and simplicity. After reading through all of the comments, I'll probably pass.
With the Ferrum Forge Gent not shipping until January, I was hoping for something under the tree at Christmas. Back to browsing the Blades section!
