K.T.NNo, it is not a trick. Similarly to Darkvoice OTL amp in your picture, the two side covers are hiding two power transformers, one for each channel. The reason for this is, except being OTL amp, 339 is also dual mono design amp. Because of that, 339 essentially has two of everything, even two power cords and two volume pots.

The cynic in me thinks it’s a marketing move - it appears you are getting more expensive iron, and the amp looks more substantial. That’s vs. something like the Darkvoice, which is also an OTL design, but has a slimmer body with only one transformer bell (for the power transformer).
Admittedly, this amp does look more substantial than the Darkvoice, but I wonder if that’s just a trick.
