Mine arrived with broken tubes, a box that was barely holding together, paint on transformer not uniform (literal lumps of paint on one transformer and scratches and chipped paint on the other). Is this how you package items? Where is the quality control?
scottluThe carrier was FEDEX, but to be honest, it most likely happened when it was being shipped to drop (crossing oceans). Never had a problem with FEDEX before. The tubes looked like they've been broken for some time, the boxes for the tubes were old and torn. Shenzhenaudio isn't much better, they'll give you a "partial refund" if an item is returned. Drop at least offered to give a full refund. Pick your poison, so to speak.
scottluEither way, I cleaned off the broken glass, air dusted the internals, and put in some tubes that I had on hand. Sounds good, it will sound better when I swap in some nos tubes. I was planning on replacing the tubes from the get-go, but it still "surprised" me to see it packaged that way and to have to clean out glass from the unit. I don't regret ordering the unit.
scottluYeah, the rectifier tubes cause it to get really hot. But the bottom of the unit is still safe to touch. So, I think the top of the unit is acting as a heat sink, keeping heat from the internals at a safe... err "safe-ish" temp.
