The first good quality fountain pens I bought were Lamy Safari with the finest nib (fine or extra fine, I don't remember) I was very happy at the increase in quality from the other junk I had. I have a few of them. Once I got my hands on a good fountain pen, like that, I decided to try a few more. I got a Faber-Castell E-Motion "All Black" and FC Onduro Oak Wood. Both with the the finest nibs (steel). While slightly scratchy at rare times, the were both excellent and super fine, to hone your skill. Real eye openers. So next I tried a Lamy 2000 EF from here. WOW. Smooth as butter, but not quite as fine as EF FB, but, as most people say, it's more like Fine than EF. BEST PEN EVER PERIOD. So now I am back for a 2000 medium for fat smooth writing. The Lamy 2000 is super excellent. I look forward to getting the fatter smoother nib.

cossan512I think if a Safari had been my first fountain pen I wouldn't have bought all the other fountain pens I did later.
The Safari was my first and last Lamy. Feels like a child's toy, writes like a rusty nail. I hear a lot of good things about the 2000 but after hearing all those good things about the Safari too, I'm not sure I'll be giving into the temptation to try this thing, no matter how good looking it is, and how good the reviews are.

sockpuppyI tried once but couldn't bring myself to love it so I promptly returned it. Like you, my only Lamy is a Safari.
