Designed by Marco Bellini, the LAMY Imporium fountain pen is a study in subtle contrast—from the matte black and gleaming gold to the different directions of the guilloche stripes. The PVD-coated barrel features a vertical pattern, the grip section has a horizontal pattern, and both are contrasted by the rounded smoothness of the screw-on cap Read More
ATTN MODERATORS: I just received my Lamy Imporium, and when I went to clean it before filling (ie, running some water thru the nib and converter), dark blue ink - and plenty of it - came out. I own a gazillion pens and NEVER have I opened a brand new pen and had ink come out while cleaning. This pen had not just been dip-tested - it had been converter-filled. NOT GOOD.
You didn't come across as particularly snarky, but I've seen other comments about these undoubtedly expensive pens which are, so I probably was little sensitive. Sorry!
I'd also note (having looked a bit more into this pen) that it's got some quite unusual design elements that are probably quite tricky to manufacture.
Arrgghh! I joined this drop in my mind as soon as I saw the pen in my inbox. Then I scrolled down and saw no mention of a converter.
I have one rule for FP drops, and it is sacrosanct, no converter, no join! (Unless it is a piston filler, or I already have a spare converter I know will fit, or it's amazing price on a really awesome pen or...)
This is a fantastic pen if you like some heft. I bought one retail a year or so ago and it's one of my favourites. The Massdrop price is fantastic for a pen of this quality.
