More Style than Substance
I wanted so bad to like The LAMY Studio Fountain Pen after falling in love with its clean, modern and understated design. But my love for it quickly became heartache as I put pen to paper. Simply put, the pen is more style than substance.  The polished metal grip section is too slippery and not aided at all by its overall shape. I found myself having to adjust my fingers far too often, because they kept sliding down towards the nib. Because of this I found myself gripping the pen harder, which of course caused premature hand fatigue. Another issue I have with the pen is with the sleeve inside of the cap. This sleeve has a tendency to catch on the grip when capping the pen. And when posting the cap, if you're not square with it, it will catch or snag the back end of the pen. I'm afraid over time, this will scratch the barrel. In terms of nib performance, it has a tendency to hard start and skip more often than a pen in this price range should. This is with the dull and lifeless blue ink cartridge that comes with it on run-of-the-mill copy paper as well as Clairefontaine. A noticeable improvement can be felt and seen when swapping out the cartridge for the Z 26 Converter filled with the much bolder and punchier Waterman Serenity Blue ink, which cures most pens hard starts and skipping issues.

MadFountainPenUserI had the same problem with the grip, but a quick rub with 320 grit sandpaper gave it a cool brushed look and solved the slipperyness problem.
