The Lanier Chest for pens is a beautiful chest for any collection. Let me preface this as this chest does what is intended: to store and display some of your pens. It is very classy as it is fully wood on the outside and there are solid felt slots for the pens. I cannot recommend this as a daily "pull out, use, put away" chest for reasons I will explain below. Please do not be discouraged against one of these chests. While the price can seem high, it is worth it if your collection is getting into the double digits. As stated, it is able to hold 76 pens throughout the trays and the top "display" tray, if you choose to get the glass option. However, this may not be the case for everyone. If you own any oversize pens such as a Namiki Emperor, Pelikan M1000, Sailor King of Pen (or its variants like the LB5), etc, then these pens will not sit cleanly in the tray. Oversize pens are too tall for any of the slots in this chest, which means they can only fit in the top "display" tray. This chest is very helpful as it holds all of your pens in place, making it easy to organize them without any knocking around. My main issue with this chest is that the trays are loose as you slide them in and out of the chest. When fully closed, the trays are flush, but when opening and closing them, there are no rails for the trays, nor are they quite wide enough for a friction fit. This means that if a tray is yanked, it can fall out of the chest. The Lanier chest is very functional and its wood finish can fit in almost any room. It has allowed me to keep all of my pens in one place, without hiding them in different drawers of my office. I have been able to organize the pens into different trays, and the most frequent use ones I keep at the very top, where they are most visible and accessible.
