Great gift for a pocket knife user!
Tried this myself before gifting it to a friend. It’s great for fixing poor factory edges and fixing blades that are trashed from use. Also, it’s a good way to learn the basics of sharpening. My only critiques are that the Lansky Diamond Stones are probably the better kit to buy if you want to get to the “next level” of sharpening using super steels. The stones would load up with metal and wear down too much for something like Maxamet steel, for example. And my last point would be that Full Flat Grind blades (like the kind found on many Spyderco knives) will fit poorly and insecurely in the blade clamp of this system. You have to sharpen them gently, otherwise they may shift or wiggle loose... But overall the system does what it’s supposed to and gets grinds even and sharp. If you’re looking for something to put your work knives back in order, this is for you.

Find another sharpening method if you have nice knives. For cheap knives this is ok

It's impossible to put any pressure down on your blade with this contraption. If you do your blade will slip and screw up your angles. I'm not impressed. Back to the time-tested method (A flat stone and knowing how to use it) for me.

Great product only 4 stars because the clamp can be a pain, a little electrical tape helps with that though. It took me a little while but this will even sharpen D2 without to much fuss

Love the Lansky. I was able to get a mirrored finish with a bit of elbow grease, but nothing too taxing. The Lansky system is affordable, easy to use, and just plain works. Almost drop the $$$ for a Wicked Edge, couldn’t justify the expense so the Lansky got the ticket. No regrets.

I've looked around and there just isn't a kit as complete as this one for the price. I do agree with some of the other reviews that say you need to put something in the clamp to protect your blade; I recommend electrical tape. I found out the hard way on a knife with a black DLC finish. This system is excellent at bringing a blade to near razor sharpness with great control of the angle. I also recommend taking a strop to the blade after you've finished with the extra fine stone to put that shave your arm edge on it.

Very great sharpener. Just make sure to put a piece of paper between blade and holder. It can scratch up some blades.
