Available in a range of bright colors and equipped with two super-reflective 3M Scotlite tracers (twice that of most guy lines), the 3-millimeter Glowire works well with Lineloc 3s, offers excellent visibility in both daylight and nighttime conditions, and is easy to handle even in the winter when your fingers are cold or fatigued Read More

Would this work well for a tarp ridgeline, or should I look for a bit thicker rope?

leosaraceniThis is equivalent in diameter (if I'm not mistaken) to 550 paracord, but with the added benefit of being lighter in weight (per equal lengths) and with considerably less stretch than paracord, therefore the Lawson Glowire is better suited, even ideal, for a tarp ridgeline.

leosaraceniI personally use 1.75mm zing-it - very thin diameter. It's thickness isn't really important.

Has anyone thought of using this Glowire cord as shoe laces?
Dirt cheap for the length that is provided......

Shipping doubles from 3 to 4 qty? I guess I'm only buying 3... or maybe making a separate account and shipping another box lol. How silly... another Massdrop logistics issue. Nice drop though.

Why get 3mm instead of the lighter, more compact 2mm Glowire? Well, 3mm works best with the popular Lineloc 3 tensioners for guying out a tent. Some people prefer the 3mm for winter use when it's cold and snowy and you're bumbling around with numb fingers - the extra width is a little easier to handle and I find it to be less stiff. Additionally, if you're looking for none-tent uses, like wrapping a skeletonized knife, then the larger volume of the 3mm might make for a more comfortable handle. Finally, the 3mm is stronger.
That all being said, I'm still waiting for Lawson to come out with a 1mm line :)

BiggcarlThe Lawson Glowire at DWG that's on sale right now is the smaller, lighter 2mm version (not the thicker, heavier & stronger 500lb (breaking strength) version in this drop). The 2mm cord currently at DWG (which was also a recent drop here) comes with a lower 225lb breaking strength and it's offered there in fewer colors than it is here.

and Lawson is not stretchy, catch-on-everything like paracord is. Paracord really is the hamburger in a filet mignon cord/rope world of today.
