Although I haven't received shipping information from Massdrop, and the drop wasn't supposed to ship until today from my understanding - I received my monitor yesterday and just got time to hook it up.
The display looks amazing! Except for one thing... There's a dead pixel in the top middle. I understand some companies have a "5 or less not in the main portion of the screen" policy, but this is LG and there was no mention of dead pixels in the drop description, so I'm going to hope I can have it replaced.

I purchased this monitor over the equivalent Samsung monitor from Amazon around the time of the last drop for this.
The LG has an absolutely gorgeous display, but as others have said, scaling is hit or miss. Just about all games I've played on it have scaled well, but in most productivity applications I've had to scale 20-30% to use them easily. At least it's been that way in W8.1.

also come with Corel Complete Office Suite 5 (not sure if any one uses these apps though).

Opinions on LG 24UD58-B vs. Samsung U24E590D?
Specs look just about identical, the Samsung has a 4 ms response time and PLS compared to the LG's 5ms response time and IPS. Color gamut, size, resolution, and connections are more or less the same. The Samsung is about the same price too, $270 on Newegg through tomorrow.

wiemerimerIgnore the posted response time. It's a marketing number and real-world numbers will be higher. Both are 60hz, so ghosting will be minimal on both. However, I've used several of LG's 4k displays from this generation. They all have a weird image persistence issue. It's minor, most won't notice it, but it's there. PLS is largely identical to IPS and outside of placebo effect, you're not going to notice a difference.
However, multiple Samsung FreeSync displays have had reported issues with the range not matched the advertised amount. Also, the Samsung uses HDMI 2.0 on one port, and HDMI 1.4 on the other. The LG uses HDMI 2.0 for both ports and has no known FreeSync issues.
If I had to chose between the two I'd take the LG. But I don't think that you can go wrong with either unless you use an AMD GPU and you get a Samsung that actually has FreeSync issues.

MedionI actually don't have a Freesync compatible GPU, so Freesync is a bit of a moot point, but I never knew about the persistence issue before. I'm nervous that it would be one of those things where as soon as I notice it I will never be able to not notice it again, so the Samsung is sounding better. The VESA mount on the Samsung is in a stupid location though at the very top of the back of the monitor, so that's not very good either. Sounds like I'm in for more thinking on this.

Closest is something like the 34" CF791 as of now, but not 4K.

The brightness is pretty low yes, but is that a problem? I'm 90% sure it's more than enough to be used confortably in every environment unless you have sun rays right on the screen the whole day, 250 is not uncommon, set it to max brightness and will you actually have much problems?
Color gamut is actually very high, it's NTSC which is much wider than sRGB and even adobe, converted it's pretty much 100% sRGB
Something is off here, i can't wrap my head around this price, looks way too convenient GTG is actually pretty good for IPS, it's a 8 bit + a frc.....seriously why is this monitor so cheap?
I mean it's not the best 4k panel on the market, ok; it doesn't have thin bezels nor it has super cool design, ok...but what the heck

I haven't done the math of how close to sRGB it is, but I agree that it would work for most uses, but the question was about the differences, and that is the one difference I saw in the specs. I just figured that I should mention it. It certainly is a temping buy.
I also agree that the 8 bit base depth is good. It seems to be just good enough, but I rarely buy monitors and TVs, so I am always reluctant, and even I am tempted on this one. Usually I over-buy a little because I expect to keep it a long time.
