formosan@formosan Thank you for your comment! You are correct these are similar displays. However there are some differences that make some people think this model is worth the few extra bucks.
1. LG 34UC87M-B is a IPS LED while the Dell U3415W is LED TN. The differences are most noticeable in color clarity and accuracy. The LG 34UC87M-B has a Color Gamut sRGB CIE1931 is @ 99.5% where the Dell U3415W Color Gamut sRGB CIE1931 is @ 76%.
You can find a thread on it here IPS LED vs LED TN here.

2. The LG 34UC87M-B also has thunderbolt connections which the Dell U3415W does not.
3. There are other slight differences in which the LG has the advantage such as viewing angles, color depth, and anti-glare.
I have attached complete specification sheets so you can check it out.

Technology is always improving and this LG being a more recent model raises the bar on a few key aspects. They are both great displays that are appropriate for different types of users.
Tex-ArozziYou state the Dell is a TN panel, yet it very clearly says on the product literature you provided yourself that it is an IPS panel. Also using your own provided product literature, the color gamuts are BOTH 99% sRGB. Further, using the TFT Central panel database, these two monitors have the exact same panel from the exact same manufacturer. The ONLY hardware difference is Thunderbolt compatibility. Why are you misleading people with your erroneous summary?
jbakerHey @jbaker and @wsun, thanks for the help in researching these monitors. I definitely overlooked the In-Plane Switching on the Dell specs, probably just because they opted for the full term and I was looking for the acronym. Apologies for overlooking that!
They also do advertise a 99% gamut but clarify in the footnotes that it is 76% by the sRGB CIE1931 specification (while the LG maintains 99% at that spec in the literature). I agree that there are a lot of similarities between the monitors but the differences are more than just the thunderbolt port.
All that said, it sounds like there might be a lot of community interest in reaching out to Dell about the U3415W. Would you guys like me to see if Dell is interested in working with the community on organizing a group buy?
Thanks again for your support in drilling down to the finer points on these monitors.
Tex-ArozziDell is just more of the same, minute differences from LG. IMHO, what you should look is into new IPS 144hz Gsync/Freesync screens (for gamers) or 40" min 4k IPS screens for productivity.
