Hey, everyone- an update here. I was part of the very first drop. My first monitor was defective- lots of stuck red pixels. So I got a RMA, then was told the monitor was "out of stock", so had to wait three weeks for my second monitor to come in, and that one also had problems. I got back in touch with LG about a refund after sending my second display in for another RMA. LG never got back to me about my refund, but instead they shipped a third display to me- I didn't even know it was on the way until I received a FedEx notice more than four weeks later. I received that third monitor today and I haven't had the chance to extensively test it yet- but at first look, it seems to be free of any manufacturing defects. So this is good news! But if you're reading this, the takeaway is this: be aggressive in contacting LG if you see *any* potential defects or problems.
