So torn. Pay $899 here IF the drop happens, get 3-year peace of mind but have to deal with LG for warranty. Or pay $999 from Amazon for the 34UM95 with a 1-year warranty but have hassle-free returns if the panel has bothersome flaws. Can't believe this hasn't reached 50 yet with all the votes it received. I guess people were on board at the $800 price but when it dropped at $900 they changed their mind. I do wish LG would disclose whether this version will have any improvements over the UM95 that has been riddled with some issues. And I wish this drop would happen because I'd like to see more LG products on here (hopefully at a steeper discount). I almost think that the 50/100 quantities set for an item of this value is too high. If it were a more realistic 25/50, we'd be almost there by now.

LateralusConsidering how riddled with issues 1440p monitors that I bought were, it will likely have plenty of them as well. Quality control for large, high ppi monitors is difficult (and this is even larger than 1440p) and... well this is LG we're talking about. For 1440p, they were pretty much the worst options in terms of manufacturers to get it from. So I would highly suggest Amazon for worry free returns. But the problem is you have to make sure your reasons for return are all very different. I practically had a limit of three VP2770's that I could exchange from them because at the third one they did not want to let me exchange but rather wanted to just give me money back because the flaw I specified "was the same." Something to be careful of even with Amazon.
Backlight bleed is fixable provided you are willing to open up the chassis and put a few pieces of cardboard here and there.

LateralusAlmost certain the 50/100 requirements were stipulated by LG, rather than a choice by Massdrop. As such, chances those thresholds will change is somewhere between miniscule and non-existent, IMO.

StoleMyOwnCarHeh, 1440 is not filled with issues. No one should be stuffing cardboard into their monitors, not even mentioning the voided warranty.

SupermoistYes, don't take it from the person that went through 8 different mainstream monitors from 5 different brands before returning them for defects. 1440p and above is totally not filled with problems at all. I must just be horribly unlucky, as must be all of the other people discussing their problems with various mainstream brands (such as crosshatching on Dell U2713HM's). Well since this evidence is anecdotal, I'm not going to argue.
Anyway, you can stuff whatever you want in. The important fact is that most backlight bleed is due to panel warping during manufacturing processes or transport. You can easily rectify this by "unwarping" the panel by putting in correction factors in between the bezel and the panel. Perhaps incapable individuals such as yourself would void the warranty, but it's quite easy to do, so I doubt it would void warranty (provided it is undone before sending back to the manufacturer). I have personally done it on my Qnix and it took all of 15 minutes... and now it looks perfect.
Monitors that you return with the manufacturer's warranty are subject to their policy (ie some allow x amount of bright pixels), and the monitor you get back is not guaranteed to be better than the one you send in. So if you get one that has no other defects but backlight bleed, it's a consideration.
Of course, I'm a perfectionist when I pay over 600$ for anything. I'm not really trying to trash this thing by the way, I'm just giving people advice as one who went through quite a bit of stress with high resolution panels a year ago.

StoleMyOwnCarEveryone.....let's follow his advice. Everyone return your 1440 screens to the store, they're wraught with problems. Get a different screen and cram it full of cardboard.
