From what I gather the biggest weakness of this TV is it's sound. Can anyone recommend a decent sound solution to go along with it?

westromDefine 'decent'. If you're buying a $2000 tv then I assume that you want audio of equal quality to the video. It depends on what all equipment that you have, but I would cheat a bit and get an Oppo hd blueray player. They have fantastic audio processing and come with pre-outs for speakers. The only downside is that it will only have a single hdmi input for additional sources which will work if you just have a Shield. Alternatively, you could get a good Dennon or Marantz Receiver if you need more source inputs. From there you need to pick out your speakers, but thats a much broader subject. Please consider if you have a home or are in an apartment, your space, if you want surround sound. Generally, avoid soundbars, or speaker systems in a box.

westromHey westrom, here’s the thing: its unfortunately very easy to do better than speakers built into a display panel. With how small the tv‘s speakers have to be, and how they have to be sandwiched between the panel and the wall, they’re just never going to be good according to physics.
You could buy some inexpensive bookshelf speakers from Pioneer or Polk, and a cheap powered amp from TEAC or NAD or someone, and immediately feel the richer, more full sound. But I agree with Wyman: this TV is an investment in great visuals, it would be a shame to do the equivalent of buying a top of the line computer graphics card but only buy a slow 2-core CPU, or to put expensive paint, decals, and spoilers on a slow car. Great audio can expand the entertainment well beyond the frame of your TV screen.
I recommend a nice AVR from Denon or Marantz also, or a couple other nice brands out there, and get a surround setup of ELAC speakers at your budget. Currently, I can’t fit a whole surround setup in my house, but I am enjoying my all-Massdrop setup of PS Audio Sprout II and two Chane bookshelf speakers... kind of a budget setup, but it sounds Beautiful and I’m still happy with it after using my expensive headphone setups.
