Oh look! LG tried to sell this for >$2500 and now hoping to rescue themselves through Massdrop. Go lower LG. I'll forgive your greed around $1499.

The contrast ratio is trash. 1million to 1 is the best image available today. This only offers 100000 to 1 is absolute trash for the asking price.

Ray43It should be noted that this is a LASER projector, not a bulb based system. Therefore you won't reach the top end of the contrast spectrum. That's just a limitation of the technology. This is designed to be a portable, high resolution projector so don't expect the same features as a high end, bulb based projector. The image quality is good, just make sure you project onto a surface that better reflects the darker shades. You'll never get blacks as nice as the LG OLEDs out of this and you shouldn't try. HDR looks great on this so long as the media you're projecting isn't grainy like upscale older films. You can mount it if you so choose, but that rather defies the point of it being portable and multi-modal. I can accept the price point for this since it's a laser system and quite well thought out for portability. It isn't the projector I'll buy for permanent mounting in a dark theater room though. I'll use it for what it's meant, projecting in variable locations and surfaces.

Ray43http://www.passionhomecinema.fr/blog/index.php/26/07/2018/test-lg-cinebeam-laser-4k-hu80k-lavis-de-greg/ According to this review, the actual contrast ratio is quite low and at best is comparable to an IPS TV/Monitor. As the others have said, take the manufacturer listed contrast ratio with a grain of salt.

This needs a picture of how it mounts. Is it ceiling or floor? Vertical or horizontal?
