I have had this camera for a while and just installed it. It is impossible to use. Massdrop inaccurately says there is an android app. This is not true. It does not have a screen and is impossible to aim. I am really disappointed. Worst drop ever.

Current generation dash cams are now at 2K resolution, at 720p and this price point, I do not see any reason that this is a good deal. As noted above 720p does not do a good job at clearly reading license plates.

What does the wiring kit have in it? What purpose does it serve?

The LGD323 does not have an Android app; it does not have WiFi/Bluetooth/USB so it can't communicate with your phone. You'll have to move your videos by removing & replacing the microSD card.
Settings wise: if you have the microSD card mounted on a Windows/Mac computer & are running the PC Viewer, settings edited in there will be saved to the microSD card. If the dashcam is booted with that same card again, it will automatically take up the new settings (seems like when it does this, it just says "Starting normal recording" twice). This is a problem if you have multiple microSD cards so be sure to format them all if you change settings.
Lastly, the PC viewer only works on Windows/Mac. If you primarily run Linux, like me, you can use ffmpeg to split the two video streams into multiple files. ffmpeg does not know how to parse the two subtitle tracks (which presumably contain GPS coordinates and other metadata), even if it is told just to copy them over - it will produce broken AVI files. I haven't solved that problem yet. I'd like to have coordinates burned into the video & not just speed. My script for importing video, which combines the two channels into a side-by-side video with no audio, is available here in case you're in a similar boat to me: https://gist.github.com/jeffcasavant/53f7a1fc1deee17896dfbf856ff6e110

Why not just get any Chinese camera from aliexpress? Are these so much better?

Is this not just a white-labeled (rebranded) Blackvue? Anyone actually think LG would put a dime into R&D for a dash cam?

On sale again and (still) claiming it has " a 1080p front-facing camera and a 720p rear-facing camera". It does not. Both front and rear cameras are 720p on this model. The description needs to be fixed. The specs correctly list the resolution: "
  • Resolution: Front (HD 720P at 30 FPS), rear (HD 720P at 30 FPS)"

dchaosbladeLooks like it has been changed within the last couple of hours. It now correctly says 720 front facing camera.

In the description, it states "With a 1080p front-facing camera and a 720 p rear-facing camera...", but in the specs, it just says "Resolution: Front (HD720P at 30 FPS), rear (HD 720P at 30 FPS". Is the front-facing camera 1080p or 720p? That's a fairly significant difference that could mean the difference between being able to read a license plate at a reasonable distance or not...
