Want to use a Sennheiser HD6XX or a Grado RS2E with Sony NW-ZX300A. Will the 4.4mm (Jack) to 2.5mm (Socket) works for this combination. Just want to make sure it will not damage the player or headphones.

Plchiongit will work if your cables for the headphones are already terminated with a balanced jack. i.e. your headphones should already have a 2.5mm trrs balanced jack(male connection), then all you need is a 2.5mm trrs (female) with the other end being a 4.4mm trrs (male) to work on the ZX300A

divadyhlThanks for the response....I went back and read the overview and description on Sennheiser HD6XX here and cannot find anything about the cable being balanced or not. Maybe I should ask over at Sennheiser HD6XX discussion.

PlchiongThe default cable that ships with the HD6xx if I'm not wrong is unbalanced. So you are looking to get a balanced cable first, and then getting the right connectors/adapters for your device. On the ZX300A your headphones will be definitely driven better via the 4.4mm balanced connection. The power out of the balanced connection on most portable devices is about two times higher than the single ended connection typically.

divadyhlThanks for the response and clarification again. I guess for the Sennheiser HD6XX I am looking for a balanced cable first. I should just look for a balanced cable terminating to a 4.4mm jack and skip the adapter. As for the Grado RS2E, I am out of luck. It has an unbalanced cable and it is not removable. I just have to keep on using the 3.5mm socket for it.
