My experience with Italian knives has been hit or miss, but the KUR looked right up my alley so I thought I would give it a go. Here's an overview of my thoughts.
Pros:
-Minimal, captured, hardware in reasonably sized torx screw heads (the pivot is a T15! Hooray!)
-Beautiful milling on the G-10
-Comfortable, crowned spine on the blade
-Perfect lockup, not a hint of blade play
-Came screaming sharp out of box
-Plenty of room to access the lockbar
-Deep carry wire clip
-Great sharpening choil (other companies take note)
-Excellent design for function and aesthetics
-Overall seems very well built
Cons:
-Sliepner steel is just alright. At this price S35VN or S30V would be better.
-Minor ergonomic hot spots, especially around the lockbar in a saber grip.
It might seem that there is a lot to love and not much to hate. You'd be right, so why only 2 stars? The problem is with the detachable flipper tab. From all the pictures of the KUR I've seen, it had an integral flipper tap, but mine is attached via a small screw. No biggie. I know in Lionsteel makes models like this for the European market, but after weeks of carrying this knife (it became a new favorite) the tab became loose. I tried to tighten it and the thing just fell off. Upon examination the screw was stripped. I'm a pretty experienced knife guy, and I'm sure I didn't strip the screw, which means it was only hanging on by a thread (pun intended). Without the tab opening this thing is a hassle. This knife is too good not to try and save so I'll contact Lionsteel and see if I can get another screw (I'm not holding my breath). In the event that goes smoothly, I'll update my review. Without the flipper tab fiasco this is a solid 4, maybe 5 stars.
