is a DAC necessary to pair with this amp if im running through a computer?

Maybe. A dedicated DAC is interesting when you notice electronic sound from within your computer through your headphones (interference that also get amplified by an amp). Most newer motherboards shield properly enough, so unless you notice the hiss, keep the money in your pocket.

This is amp, not dac. So you will always need dac, wheter it is in your computer or discrete one.
Also to get everything out of your amp, you will need discrete dac, competely separated from your pc case. Even most properly shielded motherboard dac can't avoid electrical noise caused by magnetic fields inside the case. Obviously this can't be avoided inside the case. Also to get better Signal-to-Noise Ratio and better dynamic range. Myself I consider gear as "hifi" if SNR exceeds something like 115dB
