In need of guidance and advice if you would all be so kind?
No messing about and being honest, I truly am about an inch above the starting point of using tubes. Do I listen to a large amount of music through a Tube based Amp, I do. I have even began to tube roll to see if it were complete bollocks and if was of course not at all. At this point I know I needed an upgrade. Up until this point I was using a Little DOT MK1. I am also startled at being able to pick up the changes but blind tests after blind tests...It is not just magic....it is REAL!!!!!
What should I upgrade to? I liked the look of the Darkvoice and my only must have is a driving tube and a power tube. This opens up so many possibilities as you can imagine.
I have used for some time my Little Dot and it has been faithful, Should I invest it is much bigger brother?
I am based in the UK so always shipping and customs, but is there anything better than this for $219.99 ?
Thank you so much >:o)
MusicFuelsYourSoulIf you are interested in an OTL tube amp, from what I've seen the MKII is a little cheaper and the DarkVoice is a little more expensive. If you're willing to spend a bit more there is the Valhalla 2, Bottlehead Crack, or some options from Garage1217. Woo Audio has the WA3 which is a bit pricier.
I have not heard any of these though, so can't comment on their relative merits. The MKIII gets generally positive comments and is considered a warm tube amp from what I've seen (obviously changing tubes will impact the sound). The best option will depend on your headphones and sound signature preferences.
If you are in the UK, you might be better off just ordering from Little Dot's website (or authorized ebay seller) since it would be direct shipped to you and covered under warranty and possible be even cheaper. While Massdrop's model makes sense in many cases, having a consolidated shipment from China to the US and then shipping back out to the UK might not make sense in your specific case.
MusicFuelsYourSoulHi. Here is some knowledge.
What you really want is a real tube amp -- direct-heated triodes like 2A3, 300B, 845, etc. These little baby output tubes don't compete.
GUTBCould you inform me as to which amps use these type of tubes, manu., model, etc.? Maybe suggest a prefered, best amp in this catagory? Very cool, impressive look, being old school myself.
Tnx,
Ray
MusicFuelsYourSoulIn my experience, Hybrds dont give as much tube sound. If you dont have a good ss, get that first. The mk3 is excellent and the stock tubes are good out of the box. The stock tubes on the darkvoice, not so good, so you would need an immediate investment in tubes. Two tubes per channel makes a difference. Read threads on head-fi.
GUTBAre those power or drivers? And what and where do you find the converters for pins. What pins would I need to jump? Thanks any info is appreciated. I've seen pictures of people doing that on the LDs.
