Hope these will be available again in the future. I was idiotic enough not to join the last drop because of some personal reasons, if these get dropped again I'll be the first in line to grab one. Demo'ed it at a friend's house, EXCELLENT interface. EXCELLENT.
Unless you SPECIFICALLY need the I2S port on this thing, you can get the same thing from Schiit (eitr). Or better still, the Topping D10 wich will give you Toslink out and a great little DAC to boot. This is a very very very niche product.
More useful for cluttering up your desk than improving the sound of an already good-sounding setup. It's a look a lot of people are into (gauging from the setups I've seen posted on this site)--more shit and more wires equals better sound, right? Besides, chicks dig a guy with lots of cables ;- )
this is a really silly product.
I expected to see a DAC. Instead it's a USB to Digital converter packaged like a home hifi component.
Really, if you are trying to get to better audio, get USB out of the way. It was never designed to function as a transport for synchronous data like stereo digital audio. So it makes no guaranty that sample 40001 will arrive right after sample 40000 and before 40002. With the same amount of distance between each sample to ensure smooth playback.
Even with an ASYNC USB DAC, the timing of everything in the signal chain from PC to the DAC is still very important. You should look further into Audio PC optimization, it's a very interesting and rewarding hobby.
