These are incredibly shapely boots—just beautiful. I got the dark brown suede, and they go great with everything I pair them with. I went a full size down from my US size, and the length and width are perfect (I wear US 8 and got the UK 7). I have narrow, low-volume feet, so while the width was fine, there is still a little extra room if I wear regular socks. Accordingly, I normally put in a pair of Superfeet insoles (blue). However, I appreciate the flexibility of being able to wear thicker, warmer socks, sans insole, if need be. I've always wanted to try shoes with Dainite soles, and now I have a pair. I haven't tried them out in the rain yet, but I'm sure they'll perform as advertised. While the material seems super-durable, it is heavy—really heavy—and that's why these get only four stars. I want to be able to wear these for cool-weather travel, and I'm afraid that I would get worn out by lugging around all the extra weight (2 lbs. 10.5 oz./1.2 kg for these, versus 1 lb. 15.4 oz./890 g for another pair of chukka boots I have). Also, unlike hiking boots, where the weight is more evenly distributed, all the weight of these boots is in the soles. Doesn't matter. They're still beautiful boots that I wear a couple of times a week.

This Loake 1880 boot provides excellent value for the money! The green suede is soft and thick, the insole is durable and reacts well to varying amounts of moisture. The Dainite sole is an indestructible tank. Capital last runs large, so I sized down 1.5 compared to my US Brannock measurement. Seek additional data points if you are unsure about the correct size.
