Before I purchase anything on massdrop, i do a price check.. I found these sold at Nordstrom for 26.00 shipped. Nordstrom has a lifetime return policy.

Ok, I hate doing this but its a must as I know it's helped me in the past when trying to make a purchasing decision. I want these for this summer but like most people, I haven't noticed them until now. With that being said: Final Massdrop price with shipping: $32.75 Final Amazon price with prime shipping: $37.05 I think MD did okay with price but I guess the question becomes how much is the time between now and the August 1st shipping date worth to you. To me most of summer is gone by then so that is very much worth the $4.30 difference to ensure we can still enjoy them while the weather is good (Michigan, not known for its warm winters...). This isn't an attack on MD as I have had my fair share of times I've seen a product come up here that makes me wonder if the MD purchaser was on the wrong strain of marijuana when they agreed to it, but this time its just a logistics issue. Product looks and sounds amazing! (Already placed my order on amazon, arriving in two days... Yay!)

Solar power feature doesn’t seem to work at all. Comes out of the box at 75% charged, left it in direct sun all day and it didn’t charge up at all. Other than that, these lights are nice to have around camp. Great ambiance.

I considered that, but no, this was in direct unclouded sunlight for at least 8 hours and there was no charging at all. Winter sunlight, though ... maybe the tech is so shitty it requires summer sun? 🤷🏻‍♂️

gnarledcouleeTech is not as shitty. Panel is simply too small. I came here to let people know there is absolutely no chance of that dinky panel charging 2000mAh battery in 14h. More like 2-5x that time. Number they provided is most likely under ideal conditions and constant strong light, sunsets excluded. That said, price seems decent for such a light. Additional worry I have is that all the lights are in series which means once one dies all the others are either going to follow soon or stop working all together.

I have one of these, awesome for camping, the solar charging feature kinda sucks but you can charge it via usb, lights up the entire campsite at night and you can cleverly rig it to a bear alarm to flash on.

You can do some epic stuff if you sit down and learn.

$20 at Outdoor Emporium in Seattle. Nice product, makes your campsite stand out for finding it in the dark. I suppose it makes it cute, too.
Can these be daisy chained together? I think 2 at the end of a campsite perimeter would be useful

Hello @Massdrop, I’m wondering how long you think this will last being used nightly in tropical conditions? How many metal parts are exposed? I would love to buy this but I don’t want rust to set in immediately and be a waste of money. I could potentially make good use of this item.

darkstar71https://phiaton.com/ipx4-water-resistance-what-it-means-and-why-you-need-it/ Based on this article, it looks like the entire unit is safe from rain and dust - that includes the USB type-A port, as it is sealed with, what looks to be, a rubber cap. I believe that this rating also applies to the "braided kink-resistant nylon" cord. Assuming it does, then you shouldn't have to worry about rust on any part of the unit, assuming you close the port when it's not in use.

darkstar71I have one of these and it seems like it would hold up well to moisture. Not sure about a downpour, but the parts seem well sealed. My biggest concern would be the USB plug at the very end of the string (used to charge the unit). It’s metal contacts are exposed and might oxidize if exposed to a marine environment, for example. But that would be true of any USB plug. The advantage of this one is that it doesn’t have a metal shroud around it to rust.
