Is this 550 lumens with a AA battery?! Or does it need a 14500 to produce that kind of powerful illumination?

GoAndDoI’m going to bet $10 that it needs a higher output battery to output that bright of a light... so no, not with a standard alkaline AA battery

GoAndDoThis light uses the CREE XP-L, a very common low voltage small LED. In other lights from reputable brand this led is listed at ~100 lumens with a standard 1.5v Alkaline battery. Reference the 4Sevens Preon.
I'm going to guess you will get between 80-120 lumens on a standard battery with this light.

Dj1001I agree, I would expect brightness to be on par with the AAA version with an extended run time. Definitely will require a 14500 to achieve stated max output.

Dj1001The AAA does 220 lumens.
Edit. Although I do agree, a 14500 will be needed for the high output this is boasting. I would expect 200 ish eith a single AA
