Even the 2nd gen Fiio X3 appears to blow this product's specs out of the water, for $300 less! Not to mention the 2nd gen X5!

PondrrWoah. That's a bit much. Their spec sheets are nowhere close. While I love FiiO and are waiting to see the X7, neither the X3 or X5 version 2s could pair close to the specs on the L5. If we are comparing direct hardware, all the chips are superior on the L5. As for software, that is something that should be left open because I love the UI of the L5 but dislike the X3 and X5.

ZilventI'm always skeptical of people claiming that "the chips are superior" in one gadget over another. Did you arrive at this conclusion based on any real evidence (ie. a double blind listening test)?

I think Use RMAA or AP devices and show the results of measures are far better way to PR
And Apple ipod touch5(famous for it's accuracy, linearity) is available about 350$ (64gb) Or Up coming ipod touch 6 with 128gb at 500$
Also available to use parametric equalizer app
It can make sound really good
By Accurate the headphone's response(or make colouring by own tastes)
