Sorry, I've got no skill to describe the characteristics of the two. What I can do is just to give my personal impression, and it will be much skewed due to my hearing-loss on the frequency above 10K. They are quite opposite to each other in sound qualities. The Macaw's sound is clear, airy and thin, while the Shure's sound is punchy, gutty and thick. The one has resolution, detail and kind of buoyant spirit, while the other has impact, body and kind of down-the-earth flesh. The one sounds like a decent MC cartridge, while the other sounds like a best MM cartridge. I'm afraid this vague impression of mine would not give you any help. But I wish you a good luck in purchasing a good earbud you will really enjoy.
