Wish they would do a drop with one of their messengers again. I need a small day bag to supplement my Manhattan Portage Focus. Which is an excellent bag for fitting in everything you might need for a day out shooting photos. But kinda bulky for just riding around town on weekends.
I've seen a few folks ask about the material used. Manhattan Portage generally uses thicker material than most comparable brands. So it will be very stiff and kind of annoying for a a while until it breaks in. But their stuff is so well built that it doesn't really break or wear out. I still have a bag of theirs that must be 12 years old by now. Great bag, though it's kind of dirty and abused looking. Not even a buckle has broken on it. Though it shows the affects of several exploded pens.
halfbellstateI was curious, too. So, I looked around.
This bag looks a lot like the Ortlieb Commuter-Daypack City. The Ortlieb isn't actually 100% waterproof because of the materials they used. Comparing against other options in the roll top, waterproof, biking backpack category it's priced somewhere in the middle.
I'd say this is more attractive than the Ortlieb, bigger, and supposedly waterproof. Now, you're not wrong, it is an expensive backpack. I'm not going to join this drop but, I see why they're asking for this price.
Are the walls and base of this bag soft, or stiffened/hard? If I sat on the bag, would the contents be crushed, or would the container protect the contents?
Looks like a good bag -- and an excellent discount, indeed. If I didn't have something similar already, I'd look into this one. I don't normally prefer rolltops, but when you have a lot of rain, they're excellent. And the side-access zippers are a little helpful to me getting over whatever issues I have with them.
