Wow! A nylon zipper pouch with slots to stick stuff in! And it's water "resistant"! How did they incorporate so many design and engineering innovations into a single product? And they utilized superior Chinese manufacturing and craftsmanship AND kept the price down to $15! I don't know how many times I wandered through Walmart, Target, etc. looking for JUST this solution and could not find a nylon zippered pouch with slots for storing stuff. Even endless hours searching Amazon, AliExpress, DHGate, etc. yielded nothing. I just hope I get the dozen I ordered for Christmas presents early enough so all my friends and family that I am buying one for will have it at the Nobel Prize Ceremony watching party I'm organizing to celebrate Manhattan Portage winning their rightfully deserved award(s)

KestrelXI own several pen cases bought from sellers on ebay and other sites. this is a very good one and very well made and designed at an excellent price. if you don't like it do not buy it, its not a zippered pouch for storing stuff its a zippered pouch for protecting and storing pens BTW

monkeycPleas elaborate on what qualities/functionality mechanical pens have that they require specially designed storage cases? When you do answer please understand that (a) I have a "hard" science education (b) I served in the military in a combat arms role and (c) am an active trained Search & Rescue volunteer. This all means that I have seen and used equipment, gear and specialty instruments for over 30 years. Help me understand what I'm missing about pens.

KestrelXI could care less about your resume, education or what you volunteer for. If you don't want it don't buy it.
KestrelXHe served in the military, so you know he is knowledgable about pens and pen cases.

CalaverasgrandeNo, that's not the point. Just saying that I've carried a lot of stuff around over the years. Some of it fragile/specialized, requiring specific storage systems - but most of it falls in the "just need a place to stash it" category. That's where my ignorant mind thinks pens belong. If I'm wrong I'd love to be educated.

KestrelXThought I’d try to offer a sincere response to your questions. Here goes: Many enthusiasts of writing instruments can easily spend hundreds or thousands of dollars in pens and accessories. For them, these tools DO fall in the category of “fragile/specialized, requiring specific storage systems.” I use fountain pens almost exclusively when I can but my collection is rather mundane and cheap. Therefore, I do as you suggest and just stuff ‘em somewhere in my bag. I don’t own any specialized sleeves, cases, rolls for them. The one or two with which I might travel would be carefully protected if the occasion arose. To some extent, it’s a marketing thing - people want a bag that is designed for their pens (as opposed to repurposing something cheaper). For others, it’s an aesthetic choice. And for others still it’s a matter of wanting a practical, well-made container for their cherished pens. Believe it or not, there are many companies of varying size that make carrying vehicles for this market. I don’t own this product or anything from this company but I would imagine it’s a decent enough product for its intended purpose. Given the caveats of ordering from Massdrop, this appears to be a reasonable price for those who want this particular item. As of this writing and for the current sale, there were 7 cases remaining for sale. By all accounts, this was a very successful drop. I hope this helps with understanding the fervor some people feel about these cases and why, in many enthusiasts minds, a typical “back to school” case is unlikely to provide sufficient protection. Hope this helps. Cheers, Gonzo ps. I wrote this on my phone and did only a cursory check of its readability. I may edit for clarity in the future.
