This is the definition of a mall ninja knife. The design, while eye catching, is gimmicky and non-practical, and based on reviews I’m seeing, the build quality and F&F are subpar. Plus $260 retail (or even the $140 drop price) for a 440c knife is a joke.

I’d avoid Mantis. Search Jared West on Bladeforums.

Is this a self-winding knife or do I have to do it?

Avoid the brand mantis. Very poor quality knives. Also note... Jared is the son of the company owner of mantis. Jared owned quartermaster who imported Chinese knives and false advertised they were made in the USA. And that's why quartermaster are no longer in business.

Na fam... I mean sharpening can tell you a little but not much. Generally a smaller bur will tell you it has less retained austenite. And when controlled like most cut tests and compared to others shows a good idea of the heat treatment. With that said sure... If people are cutting on ceramic plates and glass cutting boards or dumb stuff... Then of course it's not going to reflect real world performance. But that's usless to account for that. Your basically saying you don't care if a company provides a poor heat treatment cause it doesn't matter to anyone.

i mean, if the test is up to ASTM standards, sure. but in an environment controlled by a regular youtuber, no way. unless its project farm or someone that tests using a lot of (mostly) controlled variables. i'm not saying the heat treat doesnt matter, just that the majority of cut tests don't really meet my standards of testing methodology. for a proper test you'll need the steel to be heat treated within multiple hrc levels, be ground to multiple degrees, subjected to ASTM standard with standardized and consistent materials, and multiple materials, to establish optimal heat treat and optimal edge angle for the majority of material. THEN do it for all knives. then you can compare the best a knife steel can get to each other. i know some people are doing this, and whoever made this article https://knifesteelnerds.com/2020/05/01/testing-the-edge-retention-of-48-knife-steels/

I really waited for this one to come back but disappointed the only model I could use is already sold out. The other two waste half the blade with serrations. I guess I dont know why I bother to get my hopes up after reading the "your item just dropped emails" anymore. My luck is usually terrible and I'm always too slow to get here but i guess I can always hope that I will have better luck next time this drop comes along. Just really stinks
