These Maratec watches have really grown on me. I didn't like the like the minimal face at first. I like it now, but on first glance felt like something was missing.
I recently got the SR-3 with the plain, straight knurled knob from the last drop. I think just a tad small, but I'm loving it.
I understand that the SR-1 is significantly bigger, and I can tell it's too big for my wrist, unfortunately. If they could make one just slightly larger than the SR-3, that would be great!
I just wanted to comment on the red knob, though. I have mixed feelings about it.
OK, I've never seen it in person, and that makes a huge difference. But it reminds me of how some fly-by-night watch companies design a watch and have the production outsourced. Instead of refining the design and quality of the watch, they go for some cheap and easy bling, or design flourish, to make the watch stand out.
I know Maratec makes a good quality watch (loving mine), but the big, red, angled crown makes me think of that kind of cheap design flourish. When I see how big, brash, and angled the crown is, I feel it doesn't really work with the overall design of the watch, which features primarily straight and circular lines. And consequently I feel that it cheapens the watch.
Interestingly, I think the same crown actually works much better on the Pilot watch (maybe because the hands on the Pilot are tapered, and the lines of the Arabic numerals provide some angles that mirror, and compliment, the angled red crown).
I don't want to knock anyone's opinion (I know a lot of folks love it), but just wanted to throw another viewpoint into the mix.
Again, I might totally change my mind once I see it in person, but from the pics alone, I feel that I, personally, would rather go for the Pilot with this type of red crown.
